Patricia Roberts
A native of the Sunshine State, currently residing in Summerfield, Florida, Patricia has a lifelong fascination with and appreciation of the beauty of natural settings.
Traveling through Europe, Central America, and Hawaii, she says she was not so much intrigued by the cities and historic buildings, but quickly developed a fascination with the countryside - the light, shape, color and textures she saw in the landscapes.
On a visit to Big Sky, Montana in 1995, a long-time friend taught Patricia a technique she was using to capture some interesting landscape photos….and a hobby was born.
Three years later, while living and working on Johnston Atoll, Patricia spent her off duty hours photographing birds, sunsets and other tropical scenes which were an everyday part of island living. What started as a hobby was becoming a real passion.
While attending a Photography Workshop in Sedona, Arizona, in October 2003, the instructor, Louis DeSerio, encouraged her to explore black and white photography, citing a similarity of her work to that of Minor White. Patricia notes that by removing color, the focus shifts to texture, highlighting the simplicity or complexity of the object. She continues to work in color, but is introducing black and white photography for a fresh perspective to her work.
With the encouragement of friends and family, Patricia decided to turn what was once an avocation into a vocation and recently assembled a portfolio to exhibit her work. Her photographs are available in galleries for business and private acquisition.
The continued evolution of Patricia’s photography can be seen throughout her work. Indeed, a new perspective shines through with the advent of Positively Negative Expressions by Patricia Roberts. Seeing is believing and seeing from a different perspective is truly inspiring. Positively Negative asks us to examine our closely held beliefs about what we see and feel. It moves us effortlessly to a new plain and begs us to see through unpolluted eyes the world around us. Open your mind, walk through the images and invite truth into your heart.
Patricia says, “Each person expresses their own vision and unique interpretation in the photographs they take. As photographers, we use cameras to capture and preserve our sense of what we see – the essence and life of the thing. At some point we release “rules and techniques” and rely on our intuition and feelings. Photography is a personal experience we share with others.
Nature’s unlimited and
always changing bounty and the indescribable beauty to be found where, and sometimes when, we least expect it continues to inspire me.”
